About the Job

The Stewardship Writer supports the stewardship efforts of an expanding and aggressive development program through writing, editing, and production-related assignments for traditional and new media. Reporting to the Director of Stewardship, the Stewardship Writer supports stewardship and donor relations efforts across Lahey Health affiliates, including Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Beverly Hospital, Addison Gilbert Hospital, Winchester Hospital, Continuing Care and Behavioral Health to achieve Lahey Health’s strategic fundraising objectives. S/He will be responsible for writing, creating and stewardship projects for the advancement of Lahey’s fundraising efforts.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Writes donor relations correspondence on behalf of Lahey leadership, including acknowledgement templates, customized letters and targeted outreach. Leadership includes hospital CEOs, Senior VP of Philanthropy and select institutional and volunteer leaders..
  • Collaborates with physicians/researchers and major gift officers to develop and write stewardship reports, newsletters and updates to top donors..
  • Interviews physicians, colleagues and donors to ensure that accurate and compelling philanthropic stories are brought to the forefront..
  • Routinely refreshes and edits acknowledgements, gift receipts and standard letters.
  • Works with fundraisers to draft donor follow-up from physician leaders.
  • Drafts correspondence for donor milestone events such as birthdays, congratulatory occasions, etc.
  • Reviews and edits donor rolls and donor recognition vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree.


  • 3-5 years’ experience in copywriting or journalism

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work on deadline and adapt to last-minute tasks and fluid deadlines
  • Command of AP Style
  • Excellent writing, copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Self-starter
  • Curious, self-motivated and collaborative
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets)
